While working on the concept and the production of this calendar the economic crisis was a permanent topic in the headlines. Nevertheless, Truck Race Team Allgäuer looks ahead full of optimism and confidence. So to say stormy times, challenging a counterbalance: With the 2010 calendar TRTA leads its customers, sponsors and friends in the realms of fantasies: „Fairytales and Myths“ are the theme, as usual edited as a limited edition on twelve large format prints. The photographs vary (sometimes with an ironic touch) traditional stories from Europe, take up new myths with a global presence and look to Brazil, where Egon Allgäuer is competing in the Formula Truck, as well as to Russia, home to the second driver of the team. Truck Race Team Allgäuer wishes you a happy, successful and most of all fantastic year 2010!

Jänner The story of the „Giant Erla and the Mermaid“ is told in Austria. Erla meets Blondie below the Traunstein, falls in love and lets himself be downsized in order to live with her. But there is a sad end to the mesalliance: The mermaid soon dies, the giant vanishes in the mountains. Februar The adventures of „Don Quijote“, also called the Knight of Sad Countenance, established the fame of Spanish novelist Miguel de Cervantes. Some 500 years later an almost emancipated Doña Quijote is fighting against old and new windmill wings.

März „Baba Jaga“ is a popular fairytale in Russia. The stepmother is sending the nameless girl to the bad witch Baba Jaga who intends to eat her after she was bathed. But the victim decides to escape and among other things has to make use of a comb and a towel during her escape.   April „Alice in Wonderland“ is a brilliant play with the borderlines between fiction and reality. During a picnic Alice is lured by a white rabbit into its burrow and experiences – or dreams? – surrealistic adventures; in one of them the Jack of Hearts is playing a key role.

Mai „Sheherazade“ forms the nucleus of the Tales from 1001 Nights. She‘s reading a story to a ferocious king, who every morning kills a virgin having spent the night with her. But Sheherazade‘s story is so captivating that she is allowed to continue reading – and living.   Juni „Heidi“ is living more or less in the neighbourhood of Truck Race Team Allgäuer. The girl from the mountains, created by Johanna Spyri, became a synonym for the close to nature, earthy and in a likeable way conservative people from the Swiss Alps.

Juli The story of „Hänsel and Gretel“, another tale from the popular Grimm‘s collection, may also be read as a parable about the consequences of extreme poverty. Together the siblings manage to escape the claws of the bad witch.   August „Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs“ is part of the classical collection of fairytales collected by the Grimm- Brothers. Due to the glass bonnet the nickname of the extraordinary Messerschmitt Kabinenroller, built in the Fifties in Germany, was Snow White‘s Coffin.

September „Chupacabra“ once came from Puerto Rico to Brazil and gained great popularity there. Some say the polymorph animal has a spiny back and behaves like a vampire. It‘s also said that Chupacabra has a nasty preference for blood-sucking goats.   Oktober „Fairy godmothers“ form a group of mythical creatures which appear in different forms in many fairytales, legends or old myths. They are said to live either in trees, in the forests or in caves. Unlike the water-based mermaids they are not linked with eroticism or death.

November Hollywood fairytale „Pretty Woman“ kick-started the careers of stars Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. The movie brilliantly varies the timeless Cinderella story: The shy girl dressed in rags, that sleeps beside the oven, blossoms into a beauty and finally gets the prince.   Dezember „Sleeping Beauty“ like other old tales has a both fascinating and complex origin and probably varies even themes from the ancient German Nibelungen-Saga. Only after sleeping for 100 years can Sleeping Beauty be awakened by the kiss of a courageous prince.
